I turned 36 this past weekend, which was also Major League Baseball’s opening weekend. It’s an auspicious beginning, I’m telling myself: my new year coinciding with the literal start of my favorite season.
The beginning of the month presented the first anniversary of Short Relief at Baseball Prospectus. For something like 55 weeks now, I’ve written a little something on my favorite sport, and it’s been a joy. A few personal favorites:
- Staying for Two (mayflies, ephemerality)
- A Short Walk about Baseball (autumn)
- The Meter of Omar Vizquel (a man who is a poem & a hundred-year-old mitt)
Having a weekly something that goes out into the world has been a real boon in a writing year marked by a lot of drafting and a lot of waiting. Here’s to more writing, however it comes.
