Exciting news!

A Publishers Marketplace announcement that reads "Lebanon Valley College director of creative writing Holly M. Wendt's HEADING NORTH, pitched for fans of THE ART OF FIELDING and the Beartown series, tacking a season in which a gay Russian hockey player must rebuild his life in the NHL after tragedy and his general manager wrestles for team control while her marriage deteriorates; about grief and social change on the global stage of professional sport, to Jeffrey Condran at Braddock Avenue Books, in a nice deal, for publication in November 2023 (NA).
Pretty thrilled about this, y’all.

It’s been a long time coming, and I could not have gotten here alone. There are many people to thank, many who’ve been so integral to this book as readers, advisors, and moral support, and to my development as a writer, generally and specifically speaking, and that’s all coming. But here in 2022, I’m thinking about the beginning of this novel, a full decade ago. I don’t know that I would have had the confidence to take this on and keep going without the amazing writers, editors, and eventual colleagues at The Classical, which is where I learned that writing about sports could take many varied and various forms, and that I could think of my own writing that way. An early chapter of Heading North appeared in The Classical Magazine. I am so grateful for that.

I’m excited to be working with the excellent folks at Braddock Avenue Books, & being able to announce this during Pride month is a particular delight. I can’t wait for you to read this book!
